Over the years, we have heard so many amazing stories about how a vegan diet has helped improve people’s health in some way.
We ourselves have overcome a host of different health problems ever since we started eating a vegan diet that was low in fat (cutting out oil was so important for us!), and high in whole plant foods.
Just from our own experience, between us we overcame candida, asthma, fatigue, constipation, poor digestion, allergies, eczema, chronic menstrual pain, hyperhidrosis, weak immune systems, and low libido.
We find that anecdotal stories about improving one’s health with a vegan diet are very important to share because they help to inspire other people to try the diet. And they also give hope with a real life example of someone who has overcome a health problem that others can relate to. Sometimes, you just need to see that another person was suffering with the same condition you are, and after making some dietary changes, their condition got better.
Although we’re sent many wonderful messages of people’s health improving, we wanted to share one particular story that really blew us away. Now before we get into the story, we do want to mention that this is not a blog saying if you do this you will get the same results! Some people may have to tweak their diet more than others, and results may be faster or slower for different people too. This is just an example of what is possible when you eliminate animal products and therefore reduce inflammation in the body.
Ok, now for the story ….
Priyanka (Pri for short) is from North Carolina in the USA. She recently turned 20 years old, and since she was 3 years old she had suffered with eczema and psoriasis. She grew up in a South Indian household and ate a primarily South Indian vegetarian diet. Her family never consumed eggs on their own, but did eat them if they were included in a cake for example. Pri was raised eating minimal oil which is unusual for Indian cuisine. However, like most vegetarian Indians, Pri did eat A LOT of dairy. Ghee (or clarified butter), yoghurt, and milk were a regular feature of her diet.
Pri’s eczema consumed her entire life and caused her to have serious body image issues. She would only wear long sleeve shirts and pants. She felt ashamed to show her skin. She tried everything to heal her condition – from home remedies, to Ayurvedic treatments, and even extreme medication with horrible side effects. But surprisingly, Pri never thought of looking into her diet.
She reached a point where she was sick and tired of dealing with her skin condition and started doing some research online. Pri stumbled across one of our YouTube videos where Natasha was talking about her experience of healing her asthma, eczema, and allergies with a low fat, vegan diet. From then, Pri had a marathon session watching videos on our channel, and other vegan YouTubers, including the “Best Speech You Will Ever Hear” from Gary Yourofsky. After receiving so much information and education, Pri decided to transition to a vegan diet overnight! In fact, although her initial motivation to do the research was to heal her eczema, her new understanding of the animal rights issues behind her food choices shifted her focus. She realized that there was more at stake than just her own health.
Interestingly, after only 1 month of eliminating all animal products and eating a vegan diet, she noticed that she hadn’t had any new flare ups on her skin. This was unusual because she would always develop new patches. Within 6 months of changing her diet, there was a massive difference. And 1 year after going vegan, Pri was basically eczema free!

The Before and After photos are absolutely astounding!
The improvements you see in the After photos are entirely a result of changes to Pri’s diet – she did not use any medication like cortisone to achieve these results. Who would have known that someone raised on a vegetarian diet could have such a terrible health condition! It really makes you realize just how toxic dairy is for the human body.
What’s amazing is that Pri wasn’t eating the healthiest version of a vegan diet either! She basically ate whatever she wanted that was vegan, but did keep oil consumption very minimal. This is where there may be differences in results for different people. Some people like Pri will get amazing results just by eliminating all animal products. But for other people that might not be enough, and they might need to eat a healthier vegan diet based around more whole plant foods instead of eating more processed vegan foods. We also found great improvements with the health issues we mentioned above when we eliminated oil from our diet.
Pri still has some scarring, but her skin has dramatically improved. Now she can confidently wear whatever she chooses and feels comfortable showing her skin.
All of Pri’s family and friends were truly surprised to see her eczema heal because they had tried everything to help her in the past.
The best thing is that not only has Pri healed her skin condition, but she is also helping animals and the planet at the same time… it’s win-win!
We hope Pri’s story has helped inspire you to try a vegan diet. We encourage you to do your research just like Pri did. You can watch our YouTube channel, and you’ll also find many resources linked under Books & Movies here.
