This is the first episode in our Ask TVC series.
We asked our audience to send us their questions, and each week we’ll select one juicy question that we can answer and discuss in detail.
We loved that our first question came from a 17-year-old from the Netherlands who is pondering some deep questions about her work life that lies ahead.
She asked us about our thoughts on the monetary system, how is it possible to travel and learn more about the world whilst earning a living, and how not to feel sad and stressed about the thought of needing to work for the rest of her life.
This question was a perfect segue` from episode 001, in which we discussed our experience of change in our lives and careers.
We kind of opened Pandora’s box with this question, and it certainly won’t be the last time we discuss this topic… this is just the tip of the iceberg!

Haha, thanks very much for listening and commenting Teash! ☺
This was another lovely podcast; well done! Do you have any suggestions specifically for those of us (and I imagine we are many) who are “stuck in the 9-5 rut” but perhaps have families to care for, or are not of financial means to make mega changes and switch jobs or travel the world, but still feel the desire to live more true to ourselves and experience new/exciting things? Thank you for all you do! ~Meg
Thank you Meg! This is a great question and is somewhat similar to Jeff Dobier’s comment here. As we said to Jeff, worthy of a podcast episode topic in itself. Thanks very much for listening and commenting ?
You guys are adorable. I’ve only just discovered you. Where have you been all my life?! Something you talked about that really resonated with me was about earning money doing what you love and how people seem to baulk at the idea. However, as you said, people don’t question the CEO of a big company driving around in a nice car on a six (or whatever) figure salary but if you see someone working hard for an NPO also having a nice lifestyle people get up in arms. Now, in some cases that might be justified as people are, naturally, wary of how their valuable donations are spent but… This is problematic because it can put people off doing what they really want to do, what they are good at and doing something to make the world a better place. In my case I want to work exclusively for animals but, I need to make a living too. My passion is fundraising and my dream is to have a fundraising business. Now, if I stick to what I’m doing now I am not doing that which I really want to do. However, if I were to throw myself into fundraising (and, yes, making money for myself too!) isn’t that better than not doing anything in that regard? I’m not sure if I have explained myself well but I have no qualms about people making money while making the world a better place. After all, we need to make money so why not do it while pursuing your passion? I recommend a TED Talk by Dan Pallotta on this very issue called “The Way We Think About Charity Is Dead Wrong”. Apologies for the long post and thanks again. Vegan on!
You are too kind Katrina, thank you! Your CEO analogy is great. Making money while making the world a better place should be the only way money should be earned! If you’re in a position to follow your passion then go for it ? Thanks for the Ted Talk link, we just looked it up on YouTube and added it to our ‘Watch Later playlist. Thanks for listening and commenting ☺
Great show. I am 49 years old, married, and have 15 and 18 year old daughter, and I feel like I’m known only by the job I’ve had for the past 21 years. This podcast and your YouTube channel are inspiring to me to go in a new direction. I do feel trapped, however, by being the sole breadwinner in my family, and forcing my family to live on less just so I can be happy.. I see lots of stories about moving to a minimalist lifestyle, but rarely with kids.
Thanks very much Jeff, glad you enjoy it! We hear you loud and clear. We’re thinking this could potentially be a whole new podcast episode topic in itself. Your situation reminds us of a book we read and highly recommend called “Callings” with the tagline “Finding and Following An Authentic Life” by Gregg Levoy. Great as always 🙂 If you guys are looking for sponsors you might want to try thrivemarket.com. They have 2,278 vegan products. All their products show classifications such as Non-GMO, Cruelty Free, Vegan, Certified Organic, Gluten Free, Raw, Fair Trade (lots more too). Anyway I’ve seen them sponser several you-tube channels. It might be a good fit for you guys. Take care and thanks again always for what you do. I changed from WFPB diet to a Vegan Lifestyle and got the bigger picture from watching all your videos. S
Hello! I’ve learned so much from you guys. Thank you for being the courageous activists that you are. My question is: Do you believe it is realistic that the ENTIRE world go vegan? If so, could you touch on countries that live mostly on animal flesh due to not having the soil quality to produce mass amounts of plant foods to feed an entire population? Are these groups of people justified for eating animals if they do not have the proper resources to eat a plant-based diet? Do you think that veganism is a first world privilege? My husband and I have had this debate many times. When I discuss the environmental benefits of veganism with him, he always retorts with “It’s impossible for the whole world to go vegan” and “if it’s justified for one ethnic group to eat animals, then it should be justified for all groups.” These points are very thought-provoking, and I would like to hear your opinion on them.
Thank you!
Hi Michayla! Thank you for listening and for your question! We’ll definitely consider this topic for a future podcast ?
