Thanks so much Laura! š
I am 63 years of age and vegan for over 4 years. In my family i am the freak. Lots of health issues in my family. My two year older sister suffers from MS since 4 years. Lots of bad medicines she uses and of course they don’t work. Food has nothing to do with it she and her husband say. It is all genetics and bad luck. So they want to live a happy life with eating out on bad food, drink a lot, drink coffee all day and drinking 1 liter of buttermilk every day. It gives me so much stress. I am talking to her and to my other sister, who is sick too, all day long in my head. I must stop this, it is not healthy for me. If they want to kill themself so be it. Now i hope i don’t get a serious illness because then they can say: see it is not worth it to restrict yourself. I am batteling my family and friends in my head. This has to stop. Thanks for the podcast!
We can relate to this very much Paula! The conversations/arguments in our heads can be very powerful and annoying š You’re right, you have to step back from those people because there’s nothing you can do to help them … you can’t make someone care more about their life than you do. If they’re drinking 1 liter of buttermilk every day and won’t listen to you, there is no hope! Take care of yourself because this kind of stress can cause us to get sick too. We know a lot of people use meditation as a way of helping them find some inner peace and this might help with the battle in your head. Amazing to think at your age you’re still seen as the family freak… it’s a sad world we have created. Thank you for listening and sharing your story. And thank you for trying to help other people… in the end, all we can do is be a voice for the truth and try. x
I know the whole world will be vegan within our lifetime. I know it will. ā¤ā¤ā¤ Trust me. It’s inevitable. ? It’s the next step. ??? Now I’m thinking in a more spiritually aware manner, but trust me on this: If we want to change the world, it’s not just enough to be physical activists – it’s equally important (if not MORE important) to actually BELIEVE the world WILL change. Not only believe, tell yourself you KNOW the world WILL be fully vegan within your lifetime. We create reality with our thoughts. So never doubt the world will go completely vegan because it will. Know it. In your hearts. It will. ā¤?ā¤ Peace
I wonder if Hannah could watch a few subtle movies with her mum, The Cove is a good starter and maybe Okja, these movies are good for starting conversations about how we treat animals. I remember when my son told me he’d gone vegetarian, i thought oh god i hope its a fad. Then he went vegan and i thought what the hell will i cook. I didnt want to know his reasons for becoming vegan, i just wanted things to be easy and stay the same. Im now 56 years old and a vegan of nearly four years because of James, i dont know why i thought being a vegan would be hard, its so easy. I feel bad for not realising the cruelty i was contributing to for all those years, its so unnecessary. Thanks for another good podcast Natasha and Luca ā
Hello š i know this has nothing to do with veganism really, but i was curious about your tattoos. Is there any you regret? what are the meanings and why did you get them? and would you ever get a vegan tattoo? Ps I love your channel and have turned vegan from watching you guys. Been vegan for 1 and 1/2 years!
Great podcast again! I really enjoyed listening while I went for a walk to buy some cruelty free groceries. I’m almost 22 and I’ve been vegan for almost 2 years. I have the same issue with my mum. For the most part we get along pretty well, but whenever I comment on her consumption of sausages she just seems to eat them even more often. She struggles with anaemia and her stomach is very sensitive to anything new she eats (she has very good bowel movement hehe). She grew up pretty much eating bread, ham, tomatoes, potatoes, meat, sausages and eggs. So she sticks to that and barely has any veg or fruit. And when she does then she either gets stomach pain or a rash, and then she says she’s allergic to that fruit. So she never tries anything new anymore and to be honest she’s like a child because when something doesn’t look nice she won’t try it at all. I never really remember having that problem myself as an adult… I’m just like “okay great opportunity to try something new! Maybe it will taste amazing!”. Anyway, just thought I’d share my experience and comment under your podcast ?
Great podcast, guys! FYI, tho, that thing that Luca said — “nothing tastes as good as healthy feels” — is actually paraphrasing a line that pro-ana (anorexia) groups like to tout: “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” I’m sure you guys don’t want to be inadvertently promoting eating disorders or triggering listeners who have or have had eating disorders in the past. Might want to look into it.
Hey Grace, glad you enjoyed the episode and thanks for listening and commenting š The statement ānothing tastes as good as healthy feelsā is nothing like the pro-anorexia group statement ānothing tastes as good as skinny feelsā by virtue of the fact that healthy and skinny are in no way synonymous. In the specific context we used it in the episode, the former “healthy” statement refers specifically to eating as many calories from whole plant foods as one cares for in order to be satiated and nourish one’s body with the necessary energy and nutrition to maintain good health and avoid bad eating habits, whilst the latter refers to intentionally starving oneself as a result of a mental disorder resulting in a state of chronic poor health that can be potentially life-threatening. The two are like chalk and vegan cheese š It is also possible that the original statement is the “healthy” one and that the pro-anorexia groups misappropriated it and created the “skinny” one.
Hey guys! I have a bit of a long/scattered question. I’m interested to know your personal experiences with exercise and how you went from basically despising exercise (Natasha using her period as an excuse to get out of PE at school etc), to getting up every morning and running, cycling or going to the gym and, for the most part, loving it! I have battled with anxiety and depression for about 9 years so low energy and low motivation are problems for me. I have tried many different forms of exercise, and many different ways to approach it but unfortunately I seem to have commitment issues in this area. I could be walking everyday for 2 weeks (if I’m lucky to get that far) but one bad day and I find it really hard to get back on the bandwagon. The only thing that has ever really worked for me is doing some sort of class, but as I’m currently unemployed I don’t have the money to be spending on such things. Even then, when I used to do pole dancing, I could never work up the motivation to do anything at home that would help me progress further, thus ending in me plateauing for quite a while and not enjoying the classes anymore. Do you think it’s something that just comes to each person when the time is right, or do you think there are ways of creating a ‘more love than hate’ relationship with exercise (apart from the ol’ “just do it!” method)? I hope that all made sense!
Hi Siobhan, we get this question a lot and to be honest it really is as simple as “just do it”! We like to keep things very simple… basically, it’s a simple choice… what do you want? For us, we want to be the healthiest and fittest versions of ourselves in order to be the best vegan advocates we can be. So that means we need to take action in order to achieve our goal. We hardly ever feel like it, but we just go into robot mode and get it done. We always feel better after exercising, even if we really didn’t want to do it. We don’t like words like “motivation” and “will power” … we just stick to the old “it’s a choice” and if someone really wants to achieve something, then they’ll do what it takes to get there.
Iām not vegan but this podcast was so interesting and really refreshing/hopeful to hear. Iāve always just ate whatever but to think of food as a life source and to choose the best kinds is inspiring. I find myself struggling from things like constipation when it comes to dairy foods and pain in my breasts during that TOM. my symptoms have actually worsened as I get older, to the point where i canāt put on my bra or even touch my breasts without aching pain. I really want to try eating Whole Foods. Thank you guys for actually caring to share whatās been so good to you.
Thanks for listening and being open to the information Ruvi. We bet a mainly whole foods, low fat vegan diet will help your symptoms… considering your current level of discomfort it’s certainly worth a try!
Hello TVC! Thanks for another awesome podcast (just had tha chance to listen to this one), and the timing couldnāt be better. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the US and we will be going to my motherās. She eill be making turkey (insert eye roll here) but we will bring mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing -all vegan of course- to have and share. Inevitably there will be negative comments and faces made by my mother which always gets under my skin (me, hubby and daughter have been vegan for 4 years)…get over it already!! I always have to āgear upā for these gatherings and like to brush up on my vegan facts and retorts in preparation for whatever arguments may ensue. This podcast was incredibly helpful for that and for overall confidence building. Wish me luck and take care!! ā¤ļø ~Meg D
Not that I agree with this, but I think the gist of “Lions though” is non vegans trying to offend vegans or at least put us on the spot. Vegans are for animal rights and we don’t want animals to be hurt or exploited, so the general public will ask “Well what about lions, they kill zebras though, right? Are you gonna condemn the lion for following it’s nature? No, you’re not, so how can you condemn me?”
The thing they are not considering is that contrary to a lion, they are herbivores not carnivores and a lion doesn’t imprison zebras for his entertainment or use tgem for experiments and he doesn’t kill more antelopes than he and his pride can eat.
